In 1966, at the height of Britpop Mach I, the Beatles were displaced from the top spot on the UK charts by "Distant Drums." That song was not some swinging London or or UK beat combo. Rather it was a lonesome Western ballad by a long dead country singer with ersatz indigenous sounds. It also inspired a wave of Jamaican songs and covers. We'll hear two hours.
