It took approximately 5 years for Blondie's Heart of Glass to evolve from initial draft to worldwide domination. The punk icons recorded the dance song three times, reflecting the reigning R&B styles at the time - soul, funk, and finally disco. We'll endure two hours of covers, samples, etc.
